Several key streets, including Salem, Campbell, Kirk, Church, and 1st–3rd, will see work, with towing enforced in posted no-parking areas, so plan alternate routes and parking ahead of time.

2. Week Without Driving challenges Roanoke residents to rethink how they get around (wsls.com) — Roanoke residents and leaders are being urged to try a Week Without Driving, trading cars for walking, biking, or Valley Metro buses to better understand life without easy vehicle access. Local advocates and Mayor Joe Cobb say the challenge highlights gaps in transit, pushes for more routes and service, and encourages healthier, cleaner transportation choices around the city.

3. David Arquette to Bring 'Behind the Scream' Live Conversation to Roanoke (wsls.com) — David Arquette is coming to Roanoke's Berglund Performing Arts Theatre on Oct. 8 for a screening of Scream followed by a live conversation and audience Q&A. 4. VDOT prepares to make major changes to Route 460 in Bonsack (wdbj7.com) — If you drive Route 460 through Bonsack, expect big changes starting this fall as VDOT launches a $32 million safety and traffic-flow overhaul between Blue Hills Village Drive and Avery Row. New displaced left turns, R‑Cuts, and thru‑cuts will alter access to churches, neighborhoods, and businesses near Roanoke and Botetourt, with construction lasting through 2028 and most disruptive work planned at night.

5. Rescue Mission of Roanoke celebrates loyal 87-year-old volunteer (wfxrtv.com) — An 87-year-old Roanoke resident, Jean Proffitt, is being celebrated for nearly two decades of volunteer service at the Rescue Mission of Roanoke, where she now helps prepare grocery boxes three days a week.
