Fire damages South Boston library; director said it started in men's bathroom (yourgv.com) — South Boston's main public library is closed until further notice after a Monday afternoon fire that started in the men's bathroom, though everyone evacuated safely. With the fire department next door, crews quickly knocked down the blaze and cleared smoke. Library leaders are working with town officials and law enforcement on next steps and are directing patrons to the Halifax Public Library meanwhile.
   

2. God's Pit Crew and South Boston Speedway Partnering to Distribute Food to Families in Need (wbtmdanville.com) — Families in South Boston and Halifax County can receive free 25-pound food boxes and drinks at a drive-through distribution at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon. God's Pit Crew and the Speedway are teaming up to hand out 1,000 boxes, with no pre-registration required and up to two families served per vehicle. Organizers emphasize helping neighbors in need across Southside Virginia.
   

3. Janet Faye Barker Clark (sovanow.com) — Family and friends in South Boston are invited to remember Janet Faye Barker Clark, whose funeral is set for Wednesday at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home with burial in Halifax Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Tuesday evening, and memorials may be made to Ash Avenue Baptist Church on Ash Avenue in South Boston or the Dan River Baptist Church Association in Halifax.
   

4. Geneva Thomas Snow (sovanow.com) — South Boston residents are invited to honor Geneva Thomas Snow, with funeral services Friday at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Main Street and burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday evening, and her long ties to South Boston Church of God and local industry are warmly remembered.
