📰 News we're reading

1. BOS delay Golden Substation decision amidst split over design and reliability (blueridgeleader.com) — Loudoun supervisors have again delayed a final decision on Dominion's Golden Substation, a key piece of a four-station reliability loop that will affect Sterling and nearby communities. Sterling Supervisor Koran Saines backed postponement to December, pressing Dominion for better design and screening along Pacific Boulevard and the W&OD Trail, while others warned delays could threaten power reliability for residents and critical medical needs.

2. Loudoun-born La Prensa Tacos & Tapas expands into Texas (theburn.com) — Sterling diners may be proud to know that La Prensa Tacos & Tapas, which first opened in Nokes Plaza and is tied to The Conche Chocolate and Cake Studio in town, is expanding to Texas. Chef Santosh Tiptur has licensed the Sterling-born concept to an operator in Sugar Land, with hopes of growing the brand further across the region.

3. October 2026 World Report shows Church leaders and members in action around the world (thechurchnews.com) — Sterling's Cornerstones Food Pantry recently received more than 36,000 pounds of food through a nationwide Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints initiative, helping stock shelves for local families in need. That donation is part of a broader America250 effort delivering food to banks in all 50 states, alongside global humanitarian projects and temple milestones highlighted in the Church's October 2026 World Report.

4. *LIST* The Best Small Cities In America (iheart.com) — Sterling residents can take pride in a new WalletHub report that ranks the town as the safest small city in America. The national study compared over 1,300 small cities on affordability, economic health, education, quality of life, and safety, with Sterling standing out specifically for its strong safety metrics among top-ranked communities.

5. From Purcellville to West Virginia: Inside Chapman's Move Into Data Centers and Energy Infrastructure (blueridgeleader.com) — A Sterling data center powered by natural-gas turbines is highlighted as a real-world example of how massive energy-hungry facilities can affect nearby neighborhoods, from jet-engine-like noise to smoke and health complaints. The broader investigation follows Purcellville developer Casey Chapman's role in a multibillion-dollar West Virginia data and energy project, raising questions about air pollution, regulation, and how similar infrastructure could impact Loudoun communities.
