Pilots flew vintage World War II Stearman biplanes and local residents participated in a car parade in Fredericksburg Wednesday to honor health care workers who are working on the front lines to take care of patients during the coronavirus crisis.

Unemployment Claims In Virginia Near 500K; DC Unemployment Grows
More than 84,000 Virginians filed unemployment claims last week, a nearly 20-percent drop from the previous week, when nearly 105,000 Virginians filed unemployment claims, according to new data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Coronavirus: Virginia DMV Closures, Elective Surgery Ban Extended
On Thursday, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam extended the ban on elective surgeries through the end of April and closures of Virginia DMV centers to the public through May 10. Unless Northam orders another extension, elective surgeries would be allowed starting May 1, and DMV locations would reopen with limited operations on May 11.

Bowser Lays Out Criteria For Reopening DC After Coronavirus
Mayor Muriel Bowser laid out the criteria Thursday about how the District would reopen from all of the closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. She said the recovery presented a chance for the District to address many of the long-standing health and social inequities that are causing disparities in the city.

Metro To Close 5 Silver Line Stations For Summer Shutdown Project
Metro will close additional Northern Virginia stations for the summer-long platform rehabilitation project. Train service will not run at the closed Orange and Silver Line stations between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.
Alexandria Rescue Lends Helping Paw To Shelters Amid Coronavirus
Alexandria-based dog rescue Operation Paws for Homes hasn't waived in its ability to rescue shelter animals during the new coronavirus crisis. In fact, the rescue has nearly doubled the rescue of dogs from overwhelmed animal shelters in the southeast since March 20.
