VIENNA, VA—Among the festivities at the Church Street Holiday Stroll on Monday, Nov. 26 was the announcement of the Vienna Town Business Liaison Committee’s second annual Holiday Window Decorating Contest. Bards Alley, an independent bookstore on Church Street, claimed the grand prize.
Bards Alley won for its Polar-Express-themed storefront display. As the prize, Mayor Laurie DiRocco will volunteer for one hour during the holiday shopping season.
Bards Alley Owner Jen Morrow said the display made the connection between the holiday classic and the town's connection to the Washington & Old Dominion railroad.

"We wanted to capture both, the spirit of Vienna, and the theme of a classic holiday story," said Morrow. "Given our connection to the W&OD, my first thought was of trains--and which train is more well-known and festive than the Polar Express? Local resident Phil Charlwood artfully gave life to the magical scene and we were so excited to share it with the community."
23 businesses participated in the contest. Runners up included Cycle Chi, Caffe Amouri, and Trousseau.
