Closures, Cancellations In Vienna Related To Coronavirus Outbreak

As the new coronavirus situation continues to evolve, we're keeping track of what's open, closed and canceled around Vienna.

VIENNA, VA — The new coronavirus, or COVID-19, situation continues to change rapidly, and the Town of Vienna continues to announce changes. As cases of the new coronavirus continue to rise daily in Virginia, there have been closures, event cancellations and other impacts.

We're keeping track of what's open, modified, closed and cancelled in the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County. See the list below, and let us know in the comments if we missed any closings. Residents can find official public health guidance and updates on COVID-19 from the Fairfax County Health Department, Virginia Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Town Hall: Town Hall and other town government facilities will be open by appointment only through April 12. Town government continues to operate essential services, and residents are asked to conduct business online or by phone when possible.

Town of Vienna events: Special events as well as the Vienna Community Center's programming, rentals, open gym and drop-in activities, spring break camps, and teen center activities are canceled through April 12. Among the canceled events are the Family Fishing Rodeo, Vienna Photo Show, Prom Dress Give-Away, Old-Fashioned Egg Roll, Flashlight Egg Hunt, and Town Clean-Up Day. Events scheduled after April 12 will be evaluated at a later date.

Town of Vienna meetings: All Town of Vienna board and commission meetings have been canceled until April 13, except the March 19 Board of Architectural Review meeting at 7:30 pm. The April 14 On Deck with Mercury event is canceled and Mayor's Volunteer Reception is moved to June 9. The Town of Vienna will determine at a later time if additional cancellations may be required beyond April 13.

Vienna Community Center: Closed through April 12. Programming, rentals, open gym and drop-in activities, classes, spring break camps, and teen center activities at the Vienna Community Center are canceled through April 12. Community center staff continue to work in the building and are available by phone or email.

Freeman Store and Museum: Closed through April 14.

Class and summer camp registration: Registration for spring classes and summer camps is available on a drop-in basis, but online registration is encouraged at viennava.gov/webtrac.

Picnic shelter reservations: Not available during the cancellation period.

Town of Vienna bill and fee payments: Residents are encouraged to pay water bills and other town fees at viennava.gov/onlinepayments, mail payments to Vienna Town Hall, 127 Center St S, Vienna, VA 22180, or leave payments in the dropbox at the front door of Town Hall. For water and sewer billing customer service, call 703-255-6385; for questions about real estate taxes, call 703-255-6325.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Fairfax County Public Schools are closed through April 10, and all school buildings and administrative offices are closed until further notice. There are 29 to-go meal distribution sites open for breakfast and lunch. The site in Vienna is Cunningham Park Elementary, 1001 Park Street.

School Age Child Care: School Age Child Care is closed during weeks of March 16 and March 23. An additional week of spring break services at consolidated sites are being planned for the week of March 30, and regularly scheduled spring break services are planned for the week of April 6. The system for registration for the weeks of March 30 and April 6 will be communicated to all SACC families.

Metro: Metro made additional service cuts and asks for riders to only take essential trips, covering personnel like hospital staff, government officials, and emergency responders.

Fairfax County libraries: The twenty-two full-service libraries are closed from Monday, March 16 to Sunday, March 29. Library-sponsored programs and meeting room bookings are canceled through April 12. Due dates will be extended for 30 days, and overdue fines will be suspended.

Senior centers: Fairfax County senior centers and adult day health care centers are closed until further notice. Starting Monday, March 16, Fairfax County will provide meal delivery service to registered participants at their request. Staff will contact participants and caregivers directly to make those arrangements.

Fairfax County Park Authority: Fairfax County Park Authority facilities will be closed from March 16 to March 29, including RECenters, nature centers, historic sites, visitor centers, equestrian facilities and golf courses. In addition, events, classes, programs and permitted use of athletic fields, parks, historic sites, campgrounds, and picnic shelters are also canceled during this time period. While parks, dog parks and trails remain open, the park authority urges visitors to follow social distancing guidelines and the large gatherings mandate.

Fairfax County community centers: NCS community centers/neighborhood centers/resource centers and teen centers are closed through Sunday, March 29. Community centers and teen centers are planning to offer regularly scheduled spring break services from April 6 to April 13.

Fairfax County courts: The Supreme Court of Virginia declared a judicial emergency, it ordered all non-essential, non-emergency proceedings for circuit and district courts to be suspended.
Through Friday, April 17, the Fairfax County Circuit Court will only hear, criminal arraignments, criminal bond motions and civil emergency motions. Emergency motions include arraignments, bail review, protective order cases, emergency child custody and child protection cases and quarantine and isolation matters.

The Fairfax County General District Court will postpone or continue regular court hearings through April 17 except for bond motions (8:30 a.m.), video advisements (8:30 a.m.), motions court (9:30 a.m.), information on attorney court (9:30 a.m.), arraignment court (9:30 and 10:30 a.m.), mental health specialty docket (10:45 a.m.) and protective order court (1:30 p.m.)

For incarcerated defendants, the court will continue to hear: criminal and traffic court (9:30 a.m.), supervised release violations court (9:45 a.m.), preliminary hearing court (2 p.m.) and sentencing and non-comp courts (2 p.m.). These changes apply to all General District Court divisions, including the Towns of Vienna and Herndon.

Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court is suspending many hearings, trials, and other events, through May 10.
