Deck Fire Causes Damage To Dunn Loring Home, Displaces 2

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said improperly discarded smoking materials caused the Wednesday fire.

DUNN LORING, VA — Two people were displaced after a deck fire damaged a Dunn Loring home Wednesday night, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Around 9:28 p.m., units responded to the single family home in the 2600 block of Bowling Green Drive. Crews found a fire on the deck that was starting to extend into the home. The fire was quickly put out with no resident or firefighter injuries.

Two residents were home when the fire occurred. After one resident saw the fire on the deck, both evacuated and called 911. Smoke alarms activated after the fire was found.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking materials on the back deck. Damages were estimated to be $116,400. Red Cross assistance was not needed.
