Fireworks, Galas, Live Music: New Year's 2023 Weekend Events In NoVA

This weekend means New Year's Eve celebrations, First Day Hikes and the last weekend of some holiday lights. Check out things to do in NoVA.

VIRGINIA — Get ready to ring in 2023 with various New Year's Eve celebrations and other events around Northern Virginia and DC.

It's the last weekend for some holiday lights attractions such as ZooLights, Enchant Washington, DC, Ice & Lights and Nights of Lights on the Fairgrounds. The Winter Lantern Festival, Meadowlark Winter Walk on Lights, Georgetown GLOW and Bull Run Festival of Lights remain open in the coming days.

To celebrate New Year's Eve, there are various parties and family-friendly events planned in the region. A few of the bigger events include First Night Alexandria with fireworks, Watch Night Falls Church, The U Street New Year's Eve Bar Crawl, Capital Gatsby New Year's Eve DC Gala 2023, New Year's Eve at Farm Brew LIVE and The St. James New Year's Eve Sneaker Ball Benefiting Martha's Table.

New Year's Eve may be a day of rest for some after late night New Year's festivities. But if you want to get out for some fresh air, check out First Day Hikes such as First Day Hikes at Virginia State Parks and First Hike Fairfax.

If you're looking for a way to get around on New Year's Eve, the extended SoberRide program provides free Lyft rides up to $15 to keep intoxicated drivers off local roads. The program runs nightly through the night of Dec. 31. In addition, Metro will extend Metrobus hours until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1 and offer free fares on Metrorail and Metrobus from 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 through closing.
