From synchronized lights to handmade yard decorations, these displays are worth checking out this holiday season.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA — It's that time of year to drive by the impressive holiday light displays. Every year, we share a guide to holiday displays around Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg area.

Below are the submissions we've received by town and other Patch editor recommendations. These displays are worth a visit due to residents go all out with handmade displays, dazzling lights and sometimes synchronized shows.

We'll continue to add to this list through Dec. 23. Alexandria

2507 Fairview Dr. Alexandria: Farmer's Christmas House typically features a large amount of inflatables, lights and other holiday decorations. It is preparing to open again on Dec. 11. See the Facebook page for updates on the opening.

6004 St. John Drive, Alexandria, VA 22310

This is the second year of this holiday light show. The homeowner encourages families to visit this kid-friendly display. Hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday to Saturday. Annandale

This Christmas display offers plenty of inflatables, vintage blow molds, and tinsel yard decorations.

This display gets bigger every year. Along with its bright display, it offers a scavenger hunt and holiday movies playing live in the window.

Arlington

36th Street South and Quaker Lane, Arlington, VA

These Winter Wonderland displays with lights and inflatables is worth a visit on the Arlington-Alexandria border.

Burke

Centreville

5700 Claret Place, Centreville, VA

The Ritter Family Christmas display is back in 2022 with its plentiful lights, animations and more Christmas decorations. Check for updates on the Ritter Family Christmas Facebook page.

Herndon

1604 Jubilation Ct, Herndon, VA

Lights at Jubilation Court is a synchronized light display starting at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Visit the Lights at Jubilation Court Facebook page for more information.


Rock Ridge Court, Herndon, VA

Spectators can admire this winter wonderland with sleigh ride and hot cocoa stand model displays.

Falls Church

510 East Broad Street, Falls Church, VA

John Lanouette's walkthrough Polar Acres display with handcrafted decorations is ready for the season. Donations are typically accepted.

Fredericksburg

6013 Wickenden St. Fredericksburg, VA

The Bartley Christmas display includes colorful lights, dozens of lighted figures, an ice pond, Santa in a helicopter, inflatables, a red truck and more. New pieces are added each year. It is open nightly from 5 p.m. to midnight.

68 Pegs Lane, Fredericksburg VA

Photos don't do this display justice, the homeowner says. Lights fill the front yard and even extend to the fence, trees and side yard.

2001 Millgarden Drive, Fredericksburg, VA

Lights, bows, gnome decorations can be found around the outside of the Hilliard home. Individual decorations are best viewed during the day, and lights are on at night.

620 Hartwood Road, Fredericksburg, VA

This display has various decorations and a U-shaped driveway for drive-thru viewing. Guests can enjoy music, lights, Sesame Street decorations, Snoopy, Santa, inflatables and more. The display collects donations for local animal shelters: Stafford Animal Shelter, Old Dominion Humane Society and SPCA of Stafford.

This display is a light show attraction for the neighborhood. Visit yourself to see it in action, because photos cannot do it justice.

Leesburg

607 Hillview Place SW, Leesburg, VA

Woodlea Hills Lights is a synchronized light show. Visitors can hear the lineup of songs though the car radio on 98.3. See more information on the Woodlea Hills Lights Facebook page.



704 Seaton Ct. Leesburg, VA

Seaton Christmas Lights has been featured on local TV and was the 2021 third place winner of ABC's Kelly and Ryan Deck the Home Contest and 2019 Northern VA Magazine Holiday Lights contest winner. Donations are encouraged to the Ryan Bartel Foundation to support teen mental health wellness. Follow the display on Instagram.

Spotsylvania

11121 Blue Herron Circle, Spotsylvania, VA

Jamey Patrick decided to go all out with a Christmas display after a hard year, according to his wife, Paula Patrick. The front yard is filled with lights, a candy cane forest, snowland and more displays. Several of the decorations are handmade. He started working on it two weekends before Thanksgiving due to back surgery coming up. See a TikTok of the display here.

Stafford

68 Van Horn Lane, Stafford, VA

This display has been going on for 14 years, and more gets added every year. It features 118 wire figures, 90 wood cutouts (some aremotorized and move), blowups, lights and music to view on a u-shaped drive thru. There is also a letter to Santa mailbox where a child submits a letter with their mailing address and receives a response from Santa. Donations are being collected for the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue and for Toys for Tots. Lights are on nightly for New Year's Eve, but the display is best on nights without rain.

Vienna

10140 Hillington Court, Vienna, VA

This returning display is a mix of lights and custom pieces. New wooden pieces added this year were designed by Jennifer Maki's 11-year-old daughter Maddie.

2528 Drexel St, Vienna, VA

The Ni Family Lights features a synchronized show through Dec. 31. A lineup of "best of" songs will play through Dec. 8, and a new lineup of songs will start on Dec. 9. Visitors are asked to follow the display's parking rules. See the Ni Family Lights Facebook page for more information.

Woodbridge

3551 Karoly Place, Woodbridge, VA

Stop by this display with your car radio tuned 89.5 FM to enjoy this synchronized display. The singing Christmas trees will put on a show choreographed to holiday favorites. The show runs nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Dec. 31.
