More Car Break-Ins Reported In Vienna

After a Vienna resident said vandals smashed a car window and took a purse, two more incidents were reported.

VIENNA, VA—Two more car break-ins were reported in Vienna after a resident said a purse was stolen and car window smashed at Cunningham Park Elementary School.

On Sunday, July 16, Kristy Meyers was with a friend at Cunningham Park Elementary School playground for 20 minutes when she found her friend's car window had been smashed. A purse with a Nikon camera, cell phone credit cards and cash was stolen, she told Patch.

On Thursday, July 20, police say two more car windows were smashed and items were taken. They happened between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Vienna Dog Park (700 Courthouse Road SW). Because there is no known suspect information or surveillance footage, police cannot say if the incidents are connected. Patch is following up with detectives and will provide updates on these cases when available.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 17-006403
100 Block Branch Road, SE
July 14 10:48 p.m.

Ofc. Williams observed a driver commit a series of traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop.
Upon his interaction with the driver the officer detected signs of impairment. An open wine
bottle and a cup containing alcohol were found in the vehicle. Ofc. Williams placed the driver
under arrest after she failed to successfully complete a series of field sobriety tests.

Ofc. Williams transported the 60-year-old woman from Crestwood Heights Drive in McLean,
Virginia to the Vienna Police Station where she was offered the opportunity to provide a sample
of her breath for analysis, which she refused. The driver was then transported to the Fairfax
County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated,
Drinking While Driving and Refusal (2nd Offense).

Suspicious Event 17-006462
100 Block Saint Andrews Drive, NE
Between July 15 at 7:00 p.m. and July 16 at 7:39 a.m.

A resident believes she may have been the victim of an attempted scam after a man came to her
home soliciting paving work. After the man began the work the resident checked the
information on his company and found the information she was provided was false. The resident
notified the police when the man returned to her home, however the man left prior to the
officer’s arrival.

Arrest – Domestic Assault 17-006479
Park Street, SE
July 17 8:49 p.m.

Officers were summoned to a residence for a report of a fight between husband and wife. The
wife advised her husband became upset with her and began assaulting her. The woman did not
require any medical attention.

Ofc. Williams arrested the 66-year-old man from Park Street, SE in Vienna. He was transported
to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Domestic Assault and
an Emergency Protective Order was issued.
