More Skimming Devices Found At Vienna Exxon
Skimming devices appeared the same Vienna gas station where they were found in June.

VIENNA, VA—You may want to check your credit card and bank accounts if you've been to the Exxon Gas Station at 395 Maple Avenue East recently. Credit card skimming devices were found on two gas pumps at the Exxon this week.
The credit card skimming devices were reported to police on Wednesday, Aug. 9 around noon. Vienna Police continue to investigate.
Skimming devices are attached to machines that have card readers. The device collects financial information, including PIN numbers, when an individual slides a card through the reader.

Police have been grappling with skimming devices around the county. The latest incident comes after skimming devices appeared at the same Exxon in June, as well as a Tysons gas station in May. Last week, a skimming device was also found at a 7-Eleven ATM in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.

Fairfax County detectives offer the following tips to protect consumers from skimming devices:
- Inspect the machine. Devices may not be visible, but signs of pry marks, scratching or tampering could indicate presence of a skimming device.
- Use your credit card rather than a debit/ATM card to avoid PIN numbers from being recorded. Plus, bank funds are often more difficult to get reimbursed.
- Shield your PIN number from nearby individuals.
- Regularly check bank and card statements for fraudulent activity, even for small charges. Call your bank or credit card company right away if you suspect fraudulent activity.
- Use ATMs or machines in areas with security cameras.
