TYSONS, VA — Preserving and improving green space near the growing Tysons center will be the work of a new task force.

On Tuesday, Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn announced he is creating a task force focused on preserving and improving the stream valley west of current and future development in Tysons, which he called Fairfax County's urban center. The stream valley includes the Courthouse Spring Branch stream, Raglan Road park and other park authority property with over 40 acres of forested land. The land includes various property owners, including the Fairfax County Park Authority.

"This green corridor is of great value to nearby residents, local businesses, visitors to the area and the numerous flora and fauna that make this stream valley their home," said Alcorn at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting.

The land includes various property owners, including the Fairfax County Park Authority. Alcorn says the task force will have representatives from property owners and other community partners. The task force will ultimately make a recommendation on how to maximize the "ecological benefits" while keeping "appropriate access" for residents.

"I appreciate the park authority's act of interest and participation in this effort, and I look forward to sharing the taskforce findings and recommendations as this important community work moves forward and also would welcome any participation by any of my colleagues or their staffs in this effort," said Alcorn.
