Veterans Day 2019: Events, Schedule Changes Around Vienna
Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Here's what's open and closed for the federal holiday.
VIENNA, VA — Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 11, and there will be various events and schedule changes around Vienna.
There will be several Veterans Day ceremonies in surrounding towns. Head down to Fairfax City for a Veterans Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. The American Legion Post 177 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8469 will host the ceremony at the City Hall Portico, 10455 Armstrong Street, Fairfax.
Falls Church and the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council will hold their own ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Falls Church City Veterans Memorial in front of the Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street, Falls Church. The keynote speaker is Beverly Donner, a former commander with the Public Health Service who treated civilian casualties in Vietnam. The ceremony will also feature special remarks and remembrances, a tribute for those missing in action, a wreath presentation and prayer for departed veterans, and performances by the Falls Church City Concert Band.

Herndon's Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Town Green. The ceremony is sponsored by the American Legion Post 184.
Schedule Changes for Veterans Day
Town of Vienna and Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Nov. 11.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Nov. 11.
Fairfax County Public Schools: Open on Nov. 11.
Community Center: The Vienna Community Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a holiday weekday schedule on Nov. 11. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector for more information.
Libraries: The Fairfax County library catalog will be unavailable starting Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. as it is upgraded. Residents can check out and hold materials, but catalog searches and account services will be interrupted. Patrick Henry Library and other Fairfax County libraries will be closed Nov. 11 and 12 and reopens with the new library catalog on Nov. 13.
Metrorail: The Metro system will be open 5 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and operate on a Saturday schedule.
Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Saturday and supplemental schedule on Nov. 11. See bus timetables.
Parks: Fairfax County Park Authority parks are open on Nov. 11. The Historic House at Green Spring Gardens is closed. Visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours for more information.
Post Offices: Closed on Nov. 11.
Recreation Centers: Open regular hours on Nov. 11.
Trash and Recycling: Town of Vienna and Fairfax County trash and recycling collections occur on Nov. 11 while the Customer Service Center is closed. Contact private providers for any schedule changes. The I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) are open.
