Vienna Crime: Missing Person, Stolen Laptop, Assault in a Pizza Parlor + More

The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from June 03, 2015 – July 09, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS

Bad Check 15-006669 The Eyecare Center 125 Pleasant Street, SW, Suite B Between April 23 12:00 p.m. and May 14 12:00 p.m. An employee reported receiving five bad checks from one of their patients.

Fraud 15-006568 1100 Block Maple Avenue, East July 01 12:00 p.m. A resident reported she was reviewing her credit card account and discovered charges had been made to the account without her knowledge.

Petit Larceny 15-006482 600 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW July 02 between 6:15 a.m. and 7:51 a.m. A resident reported she placed her Galvanized Steel trash can by the curb for trash collection. She stated she went out later to collect the trash can and discovered it had been taken.

Vandalism 15-006493 100 Block Battle Street, SW July 02 2:14 p.m. The owner of a home that is scheduled to be razed returned to find graffiti written on the walls. He stated he did not wish to pursue the case but wanted to make the Police Department aware in the event this occurs when the new house is being built.

Trespassing 15-006492 Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West July 02 2:16 p.m. An employee reported a guest had rented a room for two days. He stated the guest moved out on the intended day but then returned later and attempted to return to the room. The employee informed him he would have to pay for additional days at the hotel. The guest again left the hotel only to return a short time later.

Officer Lyons responded and at the request of the employee she informed the guest he would not be rented another room and was no longer welcome on the property.

He stated he understood and would not return to the Wolf Trap Hotel.

Animal Complaint 15-006501 700 Block Skyline Drive, NE July 03 2:26 a.m. PFC Lyons responded to the area for the report of an injured deer that was stuck in the fence at the rear of a residence.

PFC Lyons determined the deer could not be saved.

Suspicious Event 15-006523 200 Block Locust Street, SE July 03 between 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A resident reported he had bid on a shirt on Ebay. He stated after the seller agreed on a price he attempted to renegotiate the price after which the seller cancelled the transaction.

The resident stated he placed negative feedback on the sellers Ebay account and then began receiving profane and threatening messages to his email account.

The resident placed a complaint with Ebay and soon after he received an apology from the seller. He stated he felt better about the situation but still wanted a report filed.

Suspicious Event 15-006513 Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE July 03 12:33 p.m. An employee reported that a suspicious package had been delivered to the mailroom. The employee stated the package appeared to be ticking.

The Fairfax County Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team (EOD) was summoned and after examining the package they determined the item was a compass.

Grand Larceny 15-006566 300 Block Sherwood Drive, NE Between July 03 at 10:00 p.m. and July 06 at 8:00 a.m. A resident reported someone had entered his vehicle and stole a backpack containing a laptop computer. There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle.

This case is being investigated.

Arrest - Assault 15-006537 Pizza Boli’s 262 Cedar Lane, SE July 04 8:00 p.m. An employee reported a white male approximately 20 – 30 years old wearing a gray shirt and jeans had threatened him with a knife. The individual had left the area prior to the arrival of the police.

MPO Vazquez responded to the area and was informed by the employee that he and the individual had been having ongoing altercations with each other that escalated when the individual pulled a knife out and threatened him.

MPO Nelson responded to the area and located the individual, who had threatened the employee. The employee was able to positively identify the individual located by MPO Nelson.

The 24 year old man from Cedar Lane, SE in Vienna was arrested for Simple Assault and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was released on his signature to appear in court.

Domestic Dispute 15-006544 Neighbor’s Restaurant 262 Cedar Lane, SE July 04 11:22 p.m. A customer reported she and her boyfriend had been involved in a heated argument causing another patron to call the Vienna Police.

MPO Vazquez spoke with both individuals involved who provided the same account of the incident and agreed the argument had not turned physical.

Assist Fire/Rescue 15-006547 1000 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW July 05 2:08 a.m. A resident reported her husband had been sleeping when he appeared to be having problems breathing. MPO Vazquez responded to the residence and discovered the husband was unresponsive with no pulse.

MPO Vazquez immediately started to perform CPR until Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel responded and took over the life saving effort. The husband was transported to an area hospital where it was later learned he had passed away.

Open Door 15-006555 TD Bank 308 Maple Avenue, West July 05 4:17 p.m. An alarm company reported a business alarm had been activated. Officer Digan responded and located an unsecured door leading into the bank.

MPO Smith along with Officer Digan searched the inside of the bank and determined nothing appeared to be out of place.

The front door was secured prior to the officers leaving.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-006583 Cottage Street at Moore Avenue, SW July 06 4:37 p.m. PFC Tracy responded to the area for the report of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway into a grassy area. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel were summoned to the location to determine if the driver had sustained any injuries from the crash. Rescue personnel determined the driver should be transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. Upon arriving at the hospital the driver was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his blood for analysis.

After supplying the blood sample and being cleared by medical personnel the 24 year old man from Inwood Drive in Springfield, Virginia was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and held on a $1,000.00 bond.

Vandalisms to Vehicles 15-006600, 15-006601, 15-006602, 15-006603 400 Block Upham Place, NW Between July 06 at 9:30 p.m. and July 07 at 9:00 a.m. Several residents in the area reported the tires on their vehicles had been slashed.

Petit Larceny 15-006597 100 Block Patrick Street, SW July 07 7:46 a.m. A resident reported he observed a suspicious male in his backyard by his shed. The resident stated when he approached the man he discovered he had run an extension cord from an electrical outlet in his shed and was attempting to charge his cell phone. The man fled the area prior to the arrival of the police officers.

Suspicious Event 15-006633 100 Block Patrick Street, SE July 07 between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. A resident reported she returned home and discovered her front door would not shut correctly. She stated someone may have attempted to gain entry but was unsuccessful. There were no other signs of an attempted forced entry into the residence.

Missing Person – Adult 15-006616 300 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE July 07 1:37 p.m. PFC Tracy was on patrol when he was approached by a resident who informed him her elderly husband had left their home and had not returned in over three hours.

MPO Shaver responded to the area to assist with locating the elderly man and discovered him walking on Westbriar Drive towards his home. After arriving back at his home PFC Tracy informed his wife of programs that can assist in locating her husband should she find herself in the same situation in the future.

Found Property 15-006617 600 Block John Marshall Drive, NW July 07 1:46 p.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in an undisclosed amount of money he found in front of his residence.

The money will be held at the police station in the event the owner is identified.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-006618 100 Block Beulah Road, NE July 07 2:13 p.m. Sgt. Farhan was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his approach to the vehicle he detected the distinct odor of marijuana. After his interaction with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana.

Sgt. Farhan issued a summons to the 22 year old man from Chatams Ford Place in Vienna for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.

Found Property 15-006624 Maple Avenue at Beulah Road, NE July 07 7:30 p.m. Officer Reedy responded to the area for the report of a suspicious bag sitting on the bench at the bus stop. The contents of the bag were found to be woman’s clothing and shoes.

The bag will be held at the Vienna Police Station in the event the owner is identified.

Trespassing 15-006661 Peterson Lane Park 575 Malcolm Road, NW July 9 3:07 a.m. A resident reported seeing four juveniles park their vehicle and walk into the park. Officers located the juveniles in the area and identified them. The juvenile driving the vehicle advised he had taken his mother’s vehicle without permission.

The parents of each of the juveniles were notified and responded to take custody of their children. Each juvenile was verbally counseled by MPO Shaw for trespassing in the park.

The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a cigarette and had no valid driver’s license. He was also counseled on those charges and his mother was advised of the process if she wanted to pursue the unauthorized use of her vehicle.

Traffic Stop 15-006668 100 Maple Avenue, East July 9 11:18 a.m.
Sgt. Juelharte responded to the area for a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly. She located the vehicle and observed the driver make a turn into a parking lot. After the officer identified the driver it was determined that she was operating the vehicle on a suspended license.

Sgt. Juelharte arrested the 60 year old female, who has no fixed address, on the charge of Driving on a Suspended License. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was held without bond.
