VIENNA, VA — The streetscapes in commercial areas could get a facelift in a project being pursued in the Town of Vienna.

The town government is planning to improve 81 landscape planters on both sides of Maple Avenue and 46 planters on both sides of Church Street. Design for the streetspace project was presented to Vienna Town Council last week.

The project could begin this fall and be completed by the end of November. Plants are expected to be in bloom during the following spring season.

"Homeowners understand the importance of curb appeal, especially when they want to sell their homes," said Vienna Park and Recreation Director Leslie Herman in a statement. "We’re working with the Town’s economic development department to create a similar dynamic to create a welcoming, vibrant commercial area that attracts residents and visitors and ‘sell’ them on supporting local businesses."

The Vienna community can learn about the project during an informational session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St., SE, Vienna, VA. LSG Landscape Architecture, the town's contractor for the project, will have representatives discuss the proposed landscape design on Maple Avenue and Church Street. Feedback will inform the project before work starts.
