Vienna Thrift Store Plans Grand Reopening After Fire
A longtime thrift store benefiting local charities reopens at a new location after a fire earlier in 2019.
VIENNA, VA — Pennywise Thrift Shop makes its triumphant return to Vienna after a fire at its old location early in 2019. The grand reopening and ribbon cutting is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 214 Dominion Road NE.
The volunteer-run store has been impacted by the fire at its old location, historic Buton Hall at Church and Mill Streets. Investigators determined the fire's cause to be a fallen tree on a power line supplying the building, resulting in a power surge in the basement's electrical panel.
Over 140 volunteers from Holy Comforter Episcopal Church run the thrift store. For over 50 years, the shop has sold clothing and household items donated and consigned from the Vienna community. Proceeds benefit local charities such as the Committee for Helping Others, FACETS, Hope for Humanity, Lamb Center and Samaritan Ministry.
