Lake Ridge Explosion Under Investigation: Fire Marshal's Office

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A "minor explosion" occurred in Lake Ridge on Monday night, according to the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue. No injuries were reported in the explosion, according to authorities. Officials also did not notice any structural damage.
Authorities said a suspect was identified and questioned at the scene. The investigation is being handled by the Prince William County Fire Marshal's Office and charges are pending.
In a report on Facebook, officials said emergency personnel responded to the 3000 block of Bridgeton Court at 8:05 p.m. on Monday, July 12. "On arrival, remnants of a possible minor explosion were located in an outdoor common area of the townhome development," the Department of Fire and Rescue wrote.

Officials said the incident appears to be random, and there is no further threat to the community. They also noted that investigators do not believe the explosion was caused by a pipe bomb, as some people initially thought.
"At this time it does not appear to be pipe bomb but rather some sort of other homemade or commercial device," officials wrote on Facebook.
The investigation from the Fire Marshal's Office is still ongoing. Since charges are pending and have not been officially filed, authorities did not identify the suspect in the explosion.
In the comments of the Department of Fire and Rescue's Facebook post, some residents shared their experience with the explosion. One resident wrote that his whole house was shaken by the explosion. He went on to say that if this explosion was minor, he'd hate to see a more serious incident.
