Contact tracing struggles in Washington
While the state has trained more than 2,100 people to work as contact tracers to track the spread of COVID-19, many of those workers are stuck waiting as counties run their own investigations, the Seattle Times reported.
Even those who have begun tracing found that more than 40% of phone numbers and other contact information is missing, making it even harder to do the work. Those who test positive are often non-responsive once they're contacted, according to the Times.
Some counties, including King County, have still managed to meet or nearly meet their tracing goals, the Times reports.
Coronavirus cases top 100 at Coyote Ridge prison
A COVID-19 outbreak inside a Franklin County prison has worsened significantly in recent days, growing to 107 confirmed cases according to the state corrections website.
The outbreak at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, in Connell, Franklin County, prompted the facility to restrict movement inside to curb the spread of the virus. Dozens more were showing symptoms as of Friday, and 1,815 people had been placed in quarantine due to possible exposure, KREM2 reported.
Coyote Ridge now has the worst coronavirus outbreak of any prison in the state, surpassing Monroe Correctional Facility, where released inmates told Patch last month about unsafe conditions and apathy by staff as the virus took hold.
