Kanawha County crews commended for 'phenomenal job' with flood cleanup following August 16 storms (wvmetronews.com) — Kanawha County crews have nearly finished curbside pickup of flood debris less than two weeks after the August 16 storms, with officials praising their "phenomenal" work in areas like Campbells Creek, Cabin Creek, and Cross Lanes. FEMA teams arrive Monday to assess damage for possible federal reimbursement, and residents who still need debris removal are urged to contact emergency management.
   

2. Opponents Work To 'Put Guardrails' On Surveillance Technology In Charleston (wvpublic.org) — Residents gathered in Charleston this week to question expanding surveillance tools like automated license plate readers and potential Flock cameras, even though none are currently planned for the city or county. Local advocates and officials discussed proposed state "guardrails" on data use, while another public meeting is set for Sept. 17 at St. John's Episcopal Church on Quarrier Street in Charleston.
   

3. Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home uses opioid settlement funds to expand housing (wowktv.com) — Charleston has directed part of its opioid settlement money to expand sober living housing at Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home on Virginia Street, adding 12 new apartments and bringing capacity to 47 beds. City leaders and nonprofit partners say the $25,000 grant is already helping men in recovery rebuild their lives and careers. Construction is expected to finish by February 2027.
   

4. WWE Friday Night Smackdown making its Charleston WV debut (wvnstv.com) — WWE Friday Night SmackDown is set to hit the Charleston Coliseum for the first time on Friday, October 30, 2026, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Local fans can see stars like CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Jade Cargill in person. Tickets are on sale now through the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
   

5. Third Day to bring 30th Anniversary Tour to West Virginia (wvnstv.com) — Third Day's 30th Anniversary Tour will stop at the Charleston Coliseum on Thursday, April 15, 2027, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Charleston. The Christian rock band will be joined by Zach Williams and Scout and the Saints. Tickets are available now through the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
