Police looking for suspect after man knocked unconscious in downtown Charleston (wchstv.com) — Charleston Police are asking for help identifying a man who allegedly punched someone unconscious near Summers Street and Kanawha Boulevard just before midnight on Sept. 11. The victim was hospitalized, and officers released a detailed description of the suspect and his female companion, urging anyone with information to contact the department's Criminal Investigation Division.
   

2. West Virginia Girl Scouts recognized for community project (wowktv.com) — Two Charleston Girl Scouts have earned the prestigious Silver Award for installing accessible picnic tables along local trails in partnership with the city's Parks and Recreation Department. Their Project Picnic Table, completed this summer, added inclusive seating at the Herbert and Gloria Jones Woodlands Trailhead and along the Treehouse Trail, showcasing how local youth are improving outdoor access for Charleston residents.
   

3. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson to speak in Charleston on October 15 (mybuckhannon.com) — Charleston residents can hear Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson speak at the Capitol Theater on Oct. 15, with a free lecture, Q&A, and book signing. The evening also lines up with the downtown Charleston ArtWalk and a special American Revolution exhibit at the Kanawha County Public Library, giving locals several history-themed outings within walking distance.
   

4. LISTEN: Tristen Has The Mountain Stage Song Of The Week (wvpublic.org) — Mountain Stage's latest episode was recorded at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, bringing Brandy Clark, Steep Canyon Rangers, Tristen, and West Virginia's own Philip Bowen to a live local audience. You can catch the full show on partner stations and even plan ahead to join upcoming Charleston tapings as part of the live radio crowd.
   

5. WV Dept. of Ed. to Welcome Student Support Professionals to Charleston (hintonnews.com) — Student support professionals from across West Virginia will gather at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center on Sept. 24 for a full-day conference focused on counseling, behavior supports, mental health, and family engagement. If you work in schools or with students locally, this event offers targeted breakout sessions on data-informed strategies, homelessness supports, and key WVDE initiatives designed to better serve Charleston-area kids.
