1. Construction to begin May 1 on Princeton's new dog park (wvpress.org) ā Princeton is set to break ground May 1 on a new dog park along Bee Street, near the coming wave pool and multi-purpose field. City leaders hope to open the dog park and aquatic center around July 4, creating a centralized recreation hub as the old dog park closes to make way for a new medical office building.

2. Mercer County holds resource planning session for mental health, substance abuse (wvva.com) ā Local officials, law enforcement, and mental health providers met at the Karen Preservati Center in Princeton to map out Mercer Countyās mental health and substance abuse resources and gaps. Their goal is to build an action plan, strengthen coordination with first responders, and better publicize available help so Princeton-area residents can more easily access needed services.

3. Mercer County residents face property tax increase (wvva.com) ā Mercer County officials meeting in Princeton have approved a property tax rate increase that could raise about $500,000 in new revenue starting July 1. Leaders say most of the added burden will fall on corporate property owners, but residents may still feel some impact as the county struggles to cover costs for the sheriffās office, jail, and animal shelter.

4. WVU Medicine unveils more than $350 million in new capital projects (mybuckhannon.com) ā Princeton residents can expect a new four-story medical office building at Princeton Community Hospital, consolidating seven practices and outpatient therapies to improve access and future services. Itās part of WVU Medicineās $350 million regional investment, with projects across West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio aimed at expanding beds, cancer care, and behavioral health services over the next several years.
