Organizers emphasize bold, original storytelling over technical polish and hope the event helps filmmakers find collaborators, distribution opportunities, and even state tax incentives that can keep creative work rooted in Wisconsin.
   

2. Drivers come forward after fatal east side crash, police investigate potential racing (wmtv15news.com) — Two drivers believed to have been racing before a fatal crash that killed a 65-year-old road worker on Madison's east side have now come forward to police. The collision happened Thursday near Pflaum and Alder roads by Sennett Middle School, and both drivers are cooperating. Investigators are interviewing witnesses, reviewing video, and expect to share more details next week.
   

3. Madison fraternity chapter suspended amid hazing investigation (wtmj.com) — A Madison fraternity chapter has halted all activities after police found pledges partially clothed, covered in food, and showing possible assault injuries in a hot Langdon Street basement. The national Alpha Epsilon Pi organization issued a cease-and-desist, and UW–Madison notes the chapter has operated without university recognition since 2015. Students involved could face serious legal and disciplinary consequences.
   

4. Endangered person in Wisconsin found safe after using license-plate-reading technology in multi-agency search (wearegreenbay.com) — An endangered person reported missing in Fitchburg was ultimately found safe in Madison after a coordinated search that used license plate reader technology. Dane County deputies and Fitchburg police traced the individual's vehicle to Cottage Grove, then learned they'd traveled into Madison, where officers confirmed the person had checked into temporary housing and completed a welfare check.
   

5. DNR asks residents to protect Wisconsin's woods and source firewood locally (gmtoday.com) — From a Madison-based announcement, Wisconsin's DNR is urging residents to buy and burn firewood locally this fall to protect forests from invasive insects and fungi. The agency stresses that hauling untreated wood, even from another town, can spread pests like emerald ash borer and oak wilt. Campers and homeowners are encouraged to purchase nearby firewood or certified treated wood instead.
