Alabama Tops 800 COVID-19 Deaths
The Alabama Department of Public Heath has confirmed more than 27,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 800 deaths.
MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Heath has confirmed more than 800 deaths from COVID-19. The ADPH report Thursday showed a total of 27,796 cases of the virus and 801 deaths.
Wednesday showed a significant increase in new COVID-19 cases statewide, with 860 new cases confirmed. In the last two weeks, the state has reported 8,746 new cases, an average of 625 new cases every day.
Just a month ago, the state had confirmed 133 deaths from COVID-19. That is an average of 24 deaths per day in the last month.

Demographically, the majority of deaths have been patients over the age of 65, although more cases have been confirmed among people ages 25-49.

COVID-19 deaths in Alabama by age group:
- 0-4 years old: 0.1 percent
- 5-24 years old: 0.2 percent
- 25-49 years old: 4 percent
- 50-64 years old: 17.1 percent
- 65+: 78.5 percent
Males make up 52.5 percent of those who have died from the virus. And 47.9 percent of the fatalities were white and 46.4 were black.
