Expect weekday daytime closures near the Houston County Courthouse, detours for commercial trucks via Ross Clark Circle, and changing traffic patterns for about six weeks while new signals and pedestrian features are installed.
   

4. Dothan tax preparer sentenced to 57 months for filing false tax returns (dothaneagle.com) — A Dothan tax preparer has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison and ordered to pay over $314,000 in restitution for filing false tax returns for herself and clients. Prosecutors say she continued the scheme even after being indicted and released on bond, with investigators estimating the total loss from her conduct exceeded $2.1 million.
   

5. Dothan woman pleads guilty to killing newborn by throwing baby in dumpster (cenlanow.com) — A Dothan woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to capital murder in the death of her newborn, whom investigators say she placed in a trash compactor at a local apartment complex. The case, which began with a 2023 investigation by Dothan Police and the Houston County District Attorney, avoided a potential death penalty trial through the plea.
