Alabama Department of Transportation begins I-85 capacity project in Montgomery (yellowhammertimes.com) — Major construction on I-85 in Montgomery will soon add a third lane in each direction between Taylor Road and Jenkins Creek, bringing years of changing traffic patterns for local drivers. Expect temporary turn restrictions at Chantilly Parkway, nighttime lane closures, and occasional weekend closures as ALDOT replaces bridges and reworks ramps over the next three and a half years.
   

2. Montgomery City Council to consider 'strategy and government… (1819news.com) — Montgomery's City Council is weighing a $62,500 contract with the Green Bridge Group for strategic, grant development and government relations work, after the city has already paid the firm $58,000 this fiscal year. The proposal draws added interest because the company employs former city chief of staff Jerime Reid, and aims to help Montgomery pursue climate-conscious infrastructure funding and other public-good initiatives.
   

3. ACTION 8 UPDATE: Montgomery police release name of person shot, killed on Zelda Road (waka.com) — Montgomery police have identified 19-year-old Kaylin Smith as the woman fatally shot during a predawn incident on Zelda Road, now being investigated as a domestic-related homicide. Officers also found a juvenile male from Georgia with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and they're asking anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers to help move the case forward.
   

4. Montgomery City Council approves proposed annual residency check (wsfa.com) — Montgomery residents now have a new safeguard to ensure council members actually live in the districts they represent. The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance requiring members to re-certify their home address every year with documented proof, closing loopholes exposed when a former member's seat was vacated over residency questions and aiming to strengthen public trust in local leadership.
   

5. TICKLED PINK: Cancer Wellness Foundation getting ready for Action 8's big event (waka.com) — Montgomery residents will soon be able to support cancer patients and breast cancer awareness at the Tickled Pink fundraiser at the Biscuits' DABOS Park on Saturday, October 3. The family-friendly event will feature mammogram services, health information, vendors, food, music, and kids' activities, all benefiting the Cancer Wellness Foundation's free services like transportation, medications, nutrition support and wigs across 37 Alabama counties.
