Fall Fest 2026 brings three-day arts celebration to Montgomery museum (gadsdentimes.com) — Montgomery residents can enjoy a free three-day Fall Fest at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts from Sept. 17–19, featuring chalk art, live music, food trucks, and hands-on artmaking. Local artists, poets, and musicians will showcase their work, while an Artist Market highlights Alabama makers and supports both the River Region creative community and the museum's educational programs.
   

2. Alabama Educational Television Foundation Authority to meet again about funding poll on APTV, PBS approval (1819news.com) — State public television leaders will gather Wednesday at noon on Madison Avenue in Montgomery to decide whether to hire a new polling firm to survey Alabamians about Alabama Public Television and PBS. The special-called meeting follows an earlier split vote on a different pollster and comes after federal funding cuts, giving Montgomery residents a chance to watch how statewide media decisions are shaped locally.
   

3. Lady Flames shut out AUM to open GSC play (clevelandbanner.com) — Auburn University at Montgomery's women's soccer team dropped a tight 1-0 home match to Lee University in Gulf South Conference play, despite strong goalkeeping and limited shots allowed. Played in Montgomery after a long lightning delay, the game saw AUM outshot 14-2 before an own-goal off a free kick decided the contest.
   

4. Community mourns after double shooting in Tuskegee (montgomeryadvertiser.com) — A deadly Sunday night shooting in nearby Tuskegee, involving local students, prompted Macon County Schools to cancel classes Monday, underscoring regional safety concerns for families in and around Montgomery. Officials also referenced separate Montgomery shootings and urged community support as the mayor and superintendent called the violence heartbreaking and pledged more information as the investigation continues.
   

5. Alabama lawmakers join bipartisan push to eliminate state's grocery tax (wtvy.com) — From Montgomery, lawmakers of both parties are backing efforts to eliminate Alabama's remaining 2% state grocery tax, which has already been reduced in recent years. Rep. Penni McClammy of Montgomery and Rep. Danny Garrett plan new 2027 bills, saying the state budget can handle the change while still protecting education funding for residents statewide.
