Alameda Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Kitchen Fire

Fire officials said food on the stove caught fire and spread to the cabinets.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a kitchen fire in an Alameda apartment this morning, fire officials said. The fire was reported at 9:16 a.m. in the 1600 block of Central Avenue. Firefighters found smoke coming from a second-floor apartment of the two-story building, according to the fire department. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Investigators determined it was caused by food catching fire on the stove. The flames spread to the cabinets and elsewhere in the kitchen. The fire was contained to the kitchen, but there was smoke damage through the entire apartment, according to the fire department.

The man who lived in the apartment got out before the fire spread. He was not injured. He is temporarily displaced from the residence and receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, fire officials said.
