ALAMEDA, CA — Last weekend Alameda Police cracked down in force, writing 159 tickets in just two days. Violations included double-parked vehicles, bicycle and scooter violations, and people ignoring the smoking ordinance.

Teams of patrol sergeants and officers focused on Alameda’s business districts, Park and Webster streets.

Alameda Police remind residents and visitors that bicycles and scooters are prohibited on sidewalks that pass directly in front of, or adjacent to, any stores, schools, or other buildings used for business purposes.

As for smoking, it is prohibited in shopping malls, service lanes, at public events, in recreation areas, dining areas, and on commercial-area sidewalks.

If you didn't get ticketed this time, don't let your guard down — police are planning similar operations later in the year.
