Odor Forces Delta Flight To Divert To Oakland Airport

The flight was headed from Southern California to Seattle before it was diverted, Delta officials said.

OAKLAND, CA — A Delta passenger plane heading to Seattle was diverted to Oakland following reports of a smell aboard the flight.

Delta officials didn't specify what it smelled like aboard the flight.

The flight took off from John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana just after 7 p.m. It appears passengers were aboard the plane for over an hour before the flight crew reported an odor.

The plane was then rerouted to Oakland San Francisco Bay International Airport "out of an abundance of caution, " where it safely landed, a Delta spokesperson told Patch.

The plane has since been taken out of commission and is being evaluated by a maintenance team, according to Delta.

"We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers and appreciate their patience as safety is always our top priority," a Delta spokesperson said, adding that passengers aboard the flight were put on other flights to Seattle.
