Originating in China some 2,000 years ago, dragon boat racing is popular throughout Asia, the Pacific Islands, Europe and the United States. Crews consist of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer. The Alameda Dragon Flyers paddling club holds 3 practices per week, participates in local and West Coast races from April through October each year, and has an active social calendar for paddlers and their non-paddling family members and friends.
Novice, recreational and competitive paddlers 18 years and older are welcome to attend 3 introductory sessions before joining for an annual fee of $120. Equipment and instruction are provided; swimming ability is not required. It's a great workout at a bargain price - come check us out today!
