Sexual Battery Victim Chases Suspect, Takes Photo: Police
Berkeley Police SVU arrested the suspect on Thursday.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Police Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) arrested Clay Collier, 33, of Berkeley on Thursday for alleged Sexual Battery and Battery. He was booked into Berkeley City Jail.
On May 29, just after 7 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was walking in the area of Bancroft Way and Fulton Street when a white male adult in his 30s grabbed her buttocks as she walked by him. The victim turned around and chased the suspect and took his picture with her phone.
As the victim was taking the photo, the suspect hit the in the face in an attempt to either take it or knock it away. The victim ran from the suspect who was last seen running north bound on Fulton Street from Bancroft Way.

The suspect’s picture was circulated among Berkeley Police Officers and Detectives. One of the officers recognized the suspect from prior contacts and tentatively identified him to a detective as Collier.
On June 6, a search warrant and arrest warrant were obtained by SVU Detectives. On Thursday, SVU served the search warrant at Collier’s residence and located evidence indicating that he was the person responsible for the attack. As the detectives were leaving Collier’s apartment he was arrested out front.
