Hayward Police Release Sketch of Suspect in Attempted Abductions of Teen Girls

Do you know this man? Anyone with additional information on these incidents is asked to call Detective Eric Mulhern at (510) 293-3436.

Police have released a sketch of a man who may be connected to a recent string of failed attempts to kidnap teenage girls walking home from high schools in Hayward. The suspect has been described as possibly of Hispanic, Middle Eastern or East Indian descent, typically wearing shorts and a hoodie.

In the second and third attacks, both victims said the suspect had a beard but no mustache. There have been three attacks in the span of five weeks, all of which took place in the afternoon hours on Fridays, and all of which involved a suspect with a white four-door vehicle.

There are obvious similarities in each case, and police say they are investigating the possibility that the same suspect may have perpetrated all three attempted kidnappings. On Feb. 20 just after 3 p.m., a 14-year-old girl was walking home from Tennyson High School on Joshua Street where a male suspect associated with a white four-door vehicle grabbed her. The girl was able to fight off the attacker and escape uninjured.

Two weeks later on March 6, a 15-year-old girl was walking home from Tennyson High School on Whitman Street shortly after 4 p.m. when a male suspect forced her into the back seat of a white four-door vehicle. The girl fought her way out and escaped without injury, according to police.

On Friday just after 3:30 p.m., a 16-year-old girl was walking home from Hayward High School in the vicinity of Walpert Street and Fletcher Lane, where a male suspect threatened her and pushed her into the back seat of a white four-door vehicle. This time the suspect produced a handgun, but the girl was still able to fight her way out and escape from the vehicle uninjured, police said. In the most recent incident the vehicle was described as similar to a Toyota Prius or Chevrolet Volt, according to police.
