Shooting on I-580 In Castro Valley: Man Injured

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A shooting on Interstate 580 in Castro Valley Tuesday night forced the closure of westbound lanes of the highway as the California Highway Patrol searched for evidence.

One man suffered a gunshot wound. He was treated at a hospital and later released.

According to CHP Officer Dan Jacowitz, at 9:06 p.m. CHP officials received a report of shots fired on westbound I-580 between Redwood Road and Strobridge Avenue.

Officers arrived at the scene and were unable to locate anyone involved. Around 11 p.m., a 21-year-old male victim came forward, Jacowitz said.

According to Jacowitz, the victim was a passenger in a Nissan traveling west on I-580. Another vehicle, described only as a black sedan, fired shots at the Nissan, injuring the victim.

The victim was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and has since been released, Jacowitz said.

All westbound lanes of I-580 were blocked in the area as officers investigated the scene. The roadway has since reopened, Jacowitz said.

The Nissan and its driver were located. The vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it, Jacowitz said.

Officers have not located the suspect vehicle or identified any suspects.
