DANVILLE, CA — Visiting a health care facility in Contra Costa County? You might notice some procedural changes as officials fight the spread of the new coronavirus.

Contra Costa Health Services announced Monday that all workers and visitors must wear masks and have their temperatures checked. Anyone who has had a respiratory illness, fever or temperature of at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit will not be allowed to enter.

The order goes into effect Tuesday and covers nursing homes, senior care homes, homeless shelters, psychiatric facilities, group homes and recovery houses.

As of Monday — the most recent information available as of Tuesday afternoon — 22 Danville residents, or 51 in 100,000 people, and 15 Alamo residents, or 102 in 100,000 people, had tested positive for COVID-19, according to the county.

Contra Costa County remains under an extended shelter-in-place order through May 3 and schools will close for the rest of this year. Residents may leave the house for essential matters.

Though farmers markets are considered essential, the Danville market will remain closed due to concerns from the community. It had planned to reopen under a restricted model, but public concerns prompted market operators to reconsider.

A local couple has used their 3D printer to create face shields for health care professionals.

Some 1,500 Tri-Valley residents have joined forces in a Facebook group to bring food shelters, give supplies to people in need, sew masks and more. The Tri-Valley Asian Association raised $9,000 to donate 23,000 supplies to Bay Area health care providers.
