Deputy Booked For Murder; Slain Dublin Couple ID'd
The man and woman, 57 and 42, were shot to death in their home Wednesday. The shooting suspect is ALCO Sheriff's Deputy Devin Williams Jr.

DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin married couple, allegedly shot and killed by an Alameda County sheriff's deputy Wednesday, was identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau as 57-year-old Benison Tran and 42-year-old Maria Tran.
Deputy Devin Williams Jr., 24, of Stockton, was off-duty at the time of the shooting, which Dublin police said was reported at 12:45 a.m. in the 3100 block of Colebrook Lane.
Williams was apprehended Wednesday afternoon in central California and was booked without bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of first-degree murder and second-degree burglary, according to inmate records.

He was identified by witnesses as the shooter, who said he then fled the residence. The victims were declared dead at the scene, authorities said.
Williams remained at large until midday Wednesday when he surrendered near Coalinga in Fresno County and was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers, sheriff's Lt. Ray Kelly said at a news conference Wednesday.

Kelly said Williams surrendered after speaking on the phone with Dublin Police Chief Garrett Holmes and other members of the Sheriff's Office, which contracts with the city of Dublin to provide police services.
Williams allegedly threw the firearm out of his vehicle in the Altamont Pass area, Kelly said.
Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez called the couple's deaths a "tragedy" and credited law enforcement for Williams' peaceful surrender.
“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that occurred in Dublin early (Wednesday) morning," Hernandez said in a statement. "There is now a child without a mother and father."
“We are grateful that the suspect surrendered without incident, and appreciate the efforts of California Highway Patrol and other agencies, who helped apprehend the suspect," she said.
Details about what led to the fatal shooting of the Trans were not released by the Sheriff's Office.
Williams is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
