Dublin Mayor Responds To Double Homicide, Deputy's Surrender
"I am heartbroken over the tragedy," Mayor Melissa Hernandez said. "There is now a child without a mother and father."
DUBLIN, CA — Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez called a couple's shooting deaths inside their home a "tragedy" and credited law enforcement for the peaceful surrender of an Alameda County Sheriff's Office deputy, wanted in connection with the Wednesday double homicide.
“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that occurred in Dublin early (Wednesday) morning," Hernandez said in a statement. "There is now a child without a mother and father."
Deputy Devin Williams Jr., 24, a Stockton resident, was identified by witnesses as the shooter in the 12:45 a.m. incident on the 3100 block of Colebrook Lane, where the male and female victims were declared dead at the scene, authorities said.

Williams fled the scene and was at large until midday Wednesday when he surrendered near Coalinga in central California. He was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers, sheriff's Sgt. Ray Kelly said at a news conference.
Kelly said Williams surrendered after speaking on the phone with Dublin Police Chief Garrett Holmes and other members of the Sheriff's Office, which contracts with the city of Dublin to provide police services.

Williams allegedly threw the firearm out of his vehicle in the Altamont Pass area and authorities were looking for it Wednesday afternoon, Kelly said.
“We are grateful that the suspect surrendered without incident, and appreciate the efforts of California Highway Patrol and other agencies, who helped apprehend the suspect," Mayor Hernandez said.
“I’d like to credit Chief Holmes for his ability to negotiate a peaceful surrender of the suspect, and thank Dublin Police Services for their hard work in bringing this to a peaceful ending," she added.
Dublin police are handling the ongoing investigation and aiding the victims' family through the grieving process, officials said.
