All Aboard The Niles Canyon Railway: Photo Of The Day

Have you ridden the scenic railway? There are wine trains, beer trains, tea trains and night trains!

FREMONT, CA — Railroad buffs travel the nation, and even the world, to ride scenic railways. But Bay Area residents don't have to go far to hop aboard the Niles Canyon Railway. Running between Sunol and Fremont through scenic Niles Canyon, this railway was completed in 1869.

Reader Kiran Sampat provided this photo to Patch after a recent excursion. He told us, "I took this picture recently during a train ride from Fremont to Sunol. It is easy, scenic and fun 30 minutes ride we took one Sunday afternoon. It is a perfect ride for kids and adults alike. The ride was mere 30 minutes one way. I would highly recommend as a weekend half a day activity. The ride will take you through the scenic route. Our family thoroughly enjoyed it."

In addition to regular trips, Niles Canyon Railway offers special excursions including wine tasting, Hot August Nights, Tea on the Rails and Beer on the Rails.
