2. 2 people injured after hit-and-run crash in Boyle Heights (abc7.com) — Two people were injured Saturday evening when a silver Dodge hit several parked cars on Forest Avenue in Boyle Heights and then fled, according to Los Angeles police. One victim, including a 22-year-old man, suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. As of Saturday night, no arrest had been made, and neighbors near Evergreen Cemetery may notice the ongoing investigation.
   

3. Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Celebrates Grand Opening (hollywoodtimes.net) — The new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is now open in Exposition Park, bringing a major storytelling-focused museum, public library, and 11 acres of park space to South Los Angeles. Residents can visit six days a week, with free admission for kids 17 and under and 90037 LM37 passholders. The museum features extensive galleries, film screenings, educational programs, and the Skywalker Grill restaurant.
   

4. Zhenya Gershman's Art Gives Strength To Ukrainians (westsidespirit.com subscription) — Los Angeles-based artist Zhenya Gershman, who keeps a studio here and another in New York, is using powerful portraiture to support Ukrainians affected by war. Her "Brushes over Bullets" works, including a Mariupol family and President Zelensky, have raised significant funds for victims and will be featured locally at UCLA Hillel's Dorotort Center on October 22, 2026.
   

5. California Dance Institute and Westside Ballet Launch the Pathways Partnership, a First-of-Its-Kind Route from Westside Classrooms to Full Ballet Scholarships (smobserved.com) — A new Pathways Partnership is connecting Los Angeles elementary classrooms with full scholarships at Westside School of Ballet, removing barriers like tuition, attire, and transportation for local kids. After a successful pilot at Venice and Mar Vista schools, a third Westside campus joins this fall, with a goal of reaching 20 schools and 40 scholarships a year by 2030.
