Disneyland Mass Shooting Hoax Causes Police To Descend On Disneyland

A heavy police presence was reported at Disneyland after local police received threats of a mass shooting inside of the park.

ANAHEIM, CA — A Southern California theme park was swarmed by police officers after receiving calls of a mass shooting at Disneyland Wednesday night.

Anaheim Police officers responded to Disneyland at around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday following a call reporting a possible mass shooting and bomb threats within the park.

The call triggered at least a dozen patrol vehicles to respond to the theme park, Fox11 reported.

According to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Matt Sutter, investigators believed the incident was a "swatting," a criminal hoax where a caller reports a false emergency, prompting a response from a police department's SWAT teams.

Sutter said the park was not evacuated, and that police were clearing the scene out of an abundance of caution.

The alleged incident at Disneyland comes just hours after a Los Angeles mall was placed on lockdown after a person called police claiming to be armed while making specific threats against a patron inside the shopping center, NBC Los Angeles reported.

The reported swatting also happened amid a broader security alert, with Gov. Gavin Newsom recently stating: "While we are not aware of any imminent threats at this time, we remain prepared for any emergency in our state."

The statement followed an FBI memo warning Iran has "aspired to conduct a surprise attack" using drones from unidentified vessels off the California Coast.
