Beginning June 27, the Pacific Palisades Library will
offer a free yoga class on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. in the community
room.
These free classes will take place on June 27, August 22, October 24, and December 26. Palisades
resident Gretchen Lightfoot will teach the series, which is open to all ages,
genders and fitness levels. Participants
are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats and towels; yoga mats will not be
provided. In addition, participants will
be required to sign a Release and Waiver of Liability.
“Life is hectic, and
finding a way to renew and replenish is important,” said Lightfoot, who
recently completed a 200-hour teacher training with YogaWorks and will begin a six-month
300-hour training in August. Mrs.
Lightfoot teaches private lessons, helping
individuals and small groups to develop a yoga practice that can best serve
their particular needs.
Suitable
for all students, the classes will offer an integrated sequence of poses
designed to warm up the body and then work toward a specific intention within
the natural movements of the spine. Students will be encouraged
throughout the practice to link their awareness of breath to the movements of
the body.

“This
awareness is the single most important key to a Hatha yoga practice, because it
serves to keep the practitioner in the present movement, observing and
accepting what is,” said Lightfoot. “Pranayama (breath work) and a final
deep relaxation (savasana) are integral to every class.”
