A Local Rants about Current State of Affairs in Pacific Palisades

OPINION: Do you agree with her observations about manners, drug use and careless water use?

By Jordan Bourque

I’m sorry about this rant but I can’t contain it anymore. Also, this doesn’t apply to EVERY SINGLE Palisadean so don’t get your panties in a bunch.

First, let me start by saying this: 90% of Palisadeans glare at me just because I am young. I don’t know what I did to them personally but they look at me like I killed their cat or something. This is not okay and very rude. Growing up, my generations parents’ taught us to treat other the way they want to be treated. Unfortunately now, I’ve heard parents in the Palisades tell their kids they do not have to treat the Latino waiter/waitress with any respect at all. WHAT?!?!?!?!!? WHO ARE YOU?!?! NOT OK!!!!!!!!

Along with this, is the fact that these people are tremendously rude when you do encounter them. Excuse me is not in their dictionary AT ALL, if you are in their way, you better move ASAP or else they are just going to stand over your shoulder, right next to you, or bump you out of the way (I had a man do this at the farmers market while holding his 4 year old daughter’s hand. He literally just walked into me and continued to stand there until I moved. NOW YOUR DAUGHTER’S GOING TO DO THIS). If you need someone to move you can ask nicely and 99.99% of the time, they will move. Unless, it’s a Palisadean who is disgusting entitled.

Second, who in the world decided it was okay to drive on Xanax and not under the influence of marijuana? I have read countless “2cents” posts about the younger generation driving irrationally. UHMMMMM EXCUSE ME??? I have seen people take Xanax for fun and pass out within 10 minutes and sleep for the next 15 hours. But its okay for people to drive on them. ????? Does that make any sense?

Sunset Boulevard is an extremely dangerous road and people need to be paying full attention to staying in their lane. This also is entitlement in some cases which not okay either. “Im rich and old, drive a super nice car, donate a bunch of money to the Palisades so I practically own this road. Whoever else is driving better get the [you know what] out of the way!” WHO EVER COULD POSSIBLY THINK LIKE THAT?! The harsh reality is that a bunch of people do. I don’t know how they got like this but they really suck as people.

Back to the Xanax thing though. I spoke to an employee at the Palisades CVS about this driving under the influence phenomena and its actually much worse than I thought. The amount of prescriptions is through the roof and I’m not just talking Xanax. Klonopin is another drug that is prescribed to countless adults living in this community (and their kids because they can’t deal with any sort of emotions) and let me tell you from watching people, IT MAKES YOU LOOPY AS [fill in the blank]! I personally would never dare drive on any sort of drug like this because I have seen how much it alters your ability to function.

AND THEN, we must consider that most adults (pretty much every adult I’ve met in the Palisades) drink. When you add just one drink to the mix YOUR EVEN MORE LOOPY. And then these people DRIVE THEIR KIDS AROUND LIKE MANIACS. Oh! And then they tell us not to drink and drive////blame everything on us.

I was walking down my street this morning and saw someone’s car that had been hit last night. It was absolutely destroyed and there was no note. Can you imagine waking up to that? What if you didn’t have any money? What if that was someones house-keepers car? TREAT OTHERS HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. Its disgusting how people are interacting.
-------and the people I do see being nice to each other are super artificial about it.

“Oh my gosh, did you hear that Stacy let her daughter sleep at a boys house? Its absolutely horrid. What a horrible parent!”

‘Oh my gosh, HI STACY SO GOOD TO SEE YOU!!”

STOP RE-LIVING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DAYS. GO ABOUT YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

Last and certainly not least!! JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE RICH AND LIVE HERE DOESN’T MEAN THE DROUGHT WONT AFFECT YOU!!! Many people are calculating how much water we have left and the general consensus is about 12-18 months. ONE YEAR. Southern California water management has done a great job of making sure everything looks perfect and drought-free but under all the lush greenery of our area is absolutely nothing. We don’t have water.

I’m saying all this because I’ve seen people on my street WATERING THEIR PAVEMENT. Hmm would you rather have clean pavement or a shower next year? Personally, i would grab my broom and just sweep if I was like OCD about my pavement.

And I haven’t just seen this person doing it. I’ve seen countless people watering pavement. WHAT IN THE WORLD. I know its perfect here but people in California are literally having to leave their life here and move. I think most Palisadeans would throw a fit and have a panic attack if someone even suggested that. I’ve also seen a lot of people washing their own cars maybe because they think it saves water? Well, if you really want your car washed just go to an actual place. It saves water and then you don’t have to wash your own car.

Stop worrying about whose kid goes to the better (more expensive) school, whose wife drives the nicer range rover (they are all the same), or whose husband makes the most money. Most everyone I have seen living here has more than enough. Spend more time living your life and less time competing/worrying/stressing.
