China Camp State Park Homicide Victim Identified
The person found dead near China Camp State Park in Marin has been identified as an East Bay man, the coroner's division announced.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — The person found dead last week near China Camp State Park in Marin County has been identified as an East Bay man, the Marin County coroner's division announced Monday.
The death of Jesus Jose Vasquez-Velazquez, 22, of Richmond, is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.
Vasquez-Velazquez was found around 8 a.m. Friday in the area of Miwok Meadows at 1400 North San Pedro Road in San Rafael, sheriff's officials said. Deputies responded to a call of a possible medical emergency and found a body along the roadway.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of California State Parks, but the agency requested the sheriff's office lead the investigation. The California Highway Patrol is assisting with the case.
Authorities have not released other details about the case because of the ongoing investigation. A forensic post mortem exam and toxicology testing were scheduled for Monday.

Sheriff's investigators asked anyone who was in the China Camp area Thursday night into Friday, or anyone else who may have information about the case, to contact the Investigations Division 415-473-7265. Investigators also asked to hear from residents living on North San Pedro Road or Pt. San Pedro Road who have surveillance cameras facing the roadway.
