Man Arrested In Connection With One Belmar Park Murder

Lakewood police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with one of two fatal stabbings in Belmar Park.

LAKEWOOD, CO — A man has been arrested in connection with one of two fatal stabbings at Belmar Park, Lakewood police said.

Vicente Enrique Orozco, 19, was arrested at about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said. During his arrest, two Lakewood schools were placed on lockout.

Orozco was taken into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of 61-year-old Stevan Sandvick, the Lakewood Police Department said.

“We are aware of the fear and unrest this crime caused in our community.” Lakewood Police Chief Daniel McCasky said in a statement. “I want to commend all of the men and women at the Lakewood Police Department for their dedicated efforts to make an arrest in this case. As always, the safety of our community is our number one priority.”

A person was walking in Belmar Park Thursday morning when they found Sandvick's body near the Colorado Fallen Firefighters Memorial, police said. The man had been stabbed several times.

Earlier that morning, just after midnight, a man was talking with his friend when a stranger went up and stabbed the man multiple times and then ran away, police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died over the weekend, according to a police update.

Lakewood police were investigating whether the two stabbings were related.

Two Jeffco public schools were placed under lockout Wednesday during Orozco's arrest, Lakewood police confirmed. No one was able to enter or leave Warren Tech and Mclain during the lockouts, which were lifted just after 1 p.m.
