MANCHESTER, CT — The annual 9/11 ceremony took place Wednesday at the Manchester Firefighters Memorial Garden and was an appropriate stop on the Patch Picture Connecticut Tour.

With a beam from the north tower of the World Trade Center in the foreground, fire officials and town leaders said the annual ceremony will always be staged each Sept. 11 to "remember the love and compassion and sacrifice" from that day in 2001. A bagpipe player led an honor guard to the area near the beam and a bell was tolled to remember the fallen.

The memorial garden was erected a year after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and not only members the 9/11 victims, but other firefighters from the region that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
