Hartford opens public housing waitlist for first time in years as demand surges (nbcconnecticut.com) — Hartford's public housing waitlist is open for the first time in years, but residents only have until 4 p.m. Thursday to apply online or in person. With thousands of applications already in and limited affordable units, officials warn that even those selected for the waitlist could wait months or longer for housing.
   

4. Yard Goats allow 21 runs in playoff opener at Reading; series moves to Hartford for Games 2 and 3 (courant.com) — The Hartford Yard Goats were routed 21-4 in their playoff opener at Reading, but the best-of-three series now shifts to Dunkin' Park for Games 2 and 3 on Thursday and Friday. Local fans still have a chance to cheer a comeback, with both Hartford home games starting at 6:30 p.m.
   

5. CT marks Mexican Independence Day with Capitol ceremony (ctpublic.org) — Hartford hosted a vibrant Mexican Independence Day ceremony at the state Capitol, drawing about 100 people for music, dancing, speeches, and a flag raising. Local leaders, including Hartford's mayor and a city state representative, joined organizers emphasizing belonging, shared U.S.-Mexico ties, and a call to honor deep Mexican roots across Connecticut and the continent.
