Driver Charged With DUI After 2-Car Crash In Newtown: Police (patch.com) — Newtown police say a Honda Civic crossed the center line on Pole Bridge Road late Sunday, striking a disabled Jeep Compass that was pulled onto the shoulder. No injuries were reported, but the Honda driver was found at fault and arrested on DUI and related motor vehicle charges, highlighting an overnight safety concern for local drivers.

Continuous Closure of the Exit 9 in Newtown (ct.gov) — Drivers in Newtown should plan ahead for a full weekend closure of the Exit 9 on-ramp from Route 25 to I-84 eastbound, from 7 p.m. Friday, August 28 through 6 a.m. Monday, August 31. CTDOT will post detours, but motorists are urged to seek alternate routes and use extra caution around the construction zone.
   

4. CT legislators form working group to examine safety of emerging construction methods (hartfordbusiness.com) — Newtown residents will see a scaled-back 120-unit Vessel Technologies apartment project move forward near Newtown High School after a court-approved settlement that adds 36 affordable units and $350,000 for sidewalks and trails. That local dispute helped spur a new state working group now examining whether Connecticut's building and fire-safety rules adequately cover modular and other emerging construction methods.
