'Shelton' Black Bear Spotted in Stratford

Residents reported seeing the bear in their backyards on Tuesday.

The “Shelton” black bear has been spotted in Stratford on Tuesday.

A reader alerts Patch.com that they saw the bear behind their house on James Farm Rd. The house backs up to Roosevelt Forest.

News 12 Connecticut also reports that a viewer reported seeing the bear in the backyard of a home on Beaver Dam Road.

The bear has become a known figure in Shelton.

The first sighting was reported on April 30 on Wesley Drive and Mill Street and since then it has been seen in various places including twice in the area of Daybreak Lane.

The Shelton Trails and Conservation put together a map to help us keep track of the bear and now you can turn to Facebook to keep up on all things Shelton bear related.

“I am the black bear wandering around Shelton, CT. Some have named me Yogi you can call me whatever you want. I’m homeless and I’m hungry,” the bear’s bio on Facebook states.
