Boys' Basketball Game Cancelled, Increased Security Expected as Schools Reopen After Threat Targets East Lyme
The game was scheduled against Haddam-Killingworth.

Officials have postponed tonight’s boys’ basketball game in East Lyme after a threat made on social media targeted the town, the Day of New London reports.
When schools open on Monday, there will be additional security protocol in place, the paper reports. Superintendent of Schools James Lombardo told the paper the additional security measures would include police presence at each school and screening procedures.
State Police, the East Lyme Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are looking into the threat posted on anonymous social media site “Yik Yak” on Christmas eve. According to WFSB, the threat stated, “better get ready for the hail of bullets. I’ve been bullied so long and after break I’m going to let all my anger out.”

According to the paper, police officials did not see the need to postpone the game as state and local police could be present for security purposes. However, Lombardo felt it would be difficult to get additional staff for the screening procedures.
The girls holiday basketball tournament taking place was also cancelled yesterday.
