1. Someone dumped trash in her yard, who cleans it up? (wsvn.com) — A Fort Lauderdale homeowner who helped build her Habitat for Humanity house was stunned when a truck dumped a trailer full of renovation debris across her yard, then drove off. After the city initially cited her, video cleared her of blame and officials arranged a special pickup, while reminding residents to report illegal dumping so violators can be prosecuted.
   

2. 10 migrants found on boat off Fort Lauderdale transferred to the Bahamas, USCG says (nbcmiami.com) — Ten migrants were intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard about 40 miles east of Fort Lauderdale and later transferred to the Bahamas after receiving food, water, shelter, and medical checks. Crews from the cutter Robert Yered battled eight-foot seas during the operation, underscoring the ongoing migrant interdiction activity just off the city's coast.
   

3. ISS Announces 2026 Design Awards Finalists (the-triton.com) — Fort Lauderdale will host the International Superyacht Society's 2026 Design & Leadership Gala on October 28 at the Broward Center, where winners of major yacht design awards will be announced. The finalists span sailing, motor, and refit categories from top global builders, reinforcing the city's role as a key hub for the superyacht industry.
   

4. Airbnb Renter Turns Tables on Armed Home Invader With Gunshot (wideopencountry.com) — An attempted armed robbery at a Fort Lauderdale Airbnb turned violent when the renter shot an 18‑year‑old suspect in the chest after two people allegedly broke into the home. Police followed a blood trail to find the wounded teen, arrested a 25‑year‑old accomplice, and charged both with attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm.
   

5. 5th year of steep enrollment drops in Broward Schools bolsters officials' plan to shutter several campuses (wsvn.com) — Families in Fort Lauderdale and across Broward County face another round of potential school closures after enrollment dropped by more than 12,000 students this year, the steepest decline in five years. Ten additional campuses are being considered for shutdown, and the school board will hold another public workshop Tuesday morning to debate how to respond to the continuing exodus.
