Garage fee hike, new free day, six-month resets - How parking changes Oct. 5 (pnj.com) — Downtown Pensacola drivers will face higher Friday night and Saturday parking rates starting Oct. 5, but will gain free parking all day Monday and Sunday. The City Council also shortened the reset period for escalating parking fines to six months and outlined new discount programs, garage upgrades, and tech options like Express Pay for Jefferson Street Garage users.
   

2. Pensacola residents favor returning Mardi Gras parades to Palafox Street, survey finds (wkrg.com) — Pensacola officials are weighing whether Mardi Gras parades should stay on Jefferson Street or return to the traditional Palafox Street route, and a new survey of 623 residents strongly favors Palafox. With safety, sidewalk changes, and downtown business ties in play, the Downtown Improvement Board meets Tuesday at 9 a.m. to discuss the parade's future path.
   

3. Florida Gas Prices Rise; Pensacola Metro Lowest In State (northescambia.com) — Drivers in Pensacola and Escambia County are paying the lowest average gas prices in Florida, with some stations around $3.86 per gallon even as the statewide average climbs to $4.37. AAA says recent oil price swings pushed prices up but may ease, while local warehouse clubs and Muscogee Road stations currently offer some of the best deals.
   

4. DeSantis appoints 10th trustee to Pensacola State governing board (pnj.com) — Pensacola residents will see new leadership at Pensacola State College as banker Johnnie Wright is appointed the 10th member of the college's District Board of Trustees, pending Florida Senate confirmation. Wright, who oversees SmartBank's Pensacola market and serves on Fiesta Pensacola's board, brings decades of regional banking and nonprofit experience to the role.

Angel director keeps seniors on the go at The Blake in Pensacola (weartv.com) — At The Blake senior living community in Pensacola, residents say activities director Charline Wetzel keeps them constantly on the move with beach kite-flying, Dairy Queen runs, scenic drives down Palafox, and ferry trips to see the Blue Angels.
